You can use your computer as a creative tool in your quest to learn a foreign language. Some innovative ideas can turn your language education into entertaining, truly an unforgettable experience.
Audio Modification
Many companies produce software packages that allow you to change your voice (or someone else). You can make your voice feminine, masculine, or a robot. This can be increased to a high pitch or lowered to the tone of the bass.
So how does this help you learn a new language?
Many foreign languages (French, Dutch and German, for example) assign gender to nouns. When learning new vocabulary, why not record a feminine noun in the voice of women, masculine noun in the male voice, and neutral nouns in a robot voice? This approach can also be used with other types of learning vocabulary. Maybe you could record a list of German dative verb in her voice and a list of German verbs in the accusative male voice. You can even retrieve audio files that have been recorded by other people and make them more attractive by adding morphing sound or sound effects.
Internet search for 'sound cloaking' or 'voice modification software' will provide a variety of resources that can be selected.
* Do not Just Print
If you have a color printer you can spice up your vocabulary lists with bursts of color - perhaps feminine nouns in red, blue, masculine noun, and neutral in dark gray. You may want to highlight the irregular verbs in different colors - or may apply bold or italics to make them stand out on the page. Experiment with different fonts and heavy.
* Website and Online Resources
Each language students must have at least one online dictionary bookmarked (preferably several). Each dictionary will work slightly differently. Some provide an audio clip. Others would allow users to submit new words and expressions. (Please note that not all application users will be 100% accurate.) Dictionary of the best will clearly show 'verified' user submission and will mark the everyday expressions and dialect right.
